Edison and Jefferson Receive State Reading Honors

Congratulations to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and Edison Elementary School on being selected for the 2026 Governor’s Science of Reading Champions Award!

This recognition reflects each school’s strong commitment to evidence-based literacy practices and the dedication of educators who implement those practices with fidelity every day. Their work is helping ensure that all students build the foundational reading skills they need to succeed.

We are proud of the leadership, collaboration, and focus on high-quality instruction that made this achievement possible. Congratulations to the entire Thomas Jefferson and Edison Elementary communities!

5th graders at Edison Elementary combined learning with leadership by integrating their economics unit into their annual Famous Cookie Sale.

Students explored real-world concepts like budgeting, marketing, and decision-making, all while having fun and working together. We’re so proud of their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit!

Everly at a desk with a small group of students.

Everly is preparing for her future in one of the best ways possible - by getting practical teaching experience at Edison Elementary! As part of Excel TECC’s Teacher Education and Children’s Health (T.E.A.C.H.) internship program, she is exhibiting her passion for working with children, gaining hands-on experience, and getting deeper insights into working with children. Her cooperating teacher, Mrs. Wagner, says that Everly has been amazing with the students and is setting the stage for a successful career in education if she chooses to stay on that path.

Everly requested Mrs. Wagner because her experience in her classroom as her student was very memorable. Another fun fact, Everly's grandmother shared that Mrs. Wagner was her favorite student years ago!

Keeping our Shared Vision and Promises alive by creating engaging experiences and investing in the future of our students - that's the Willoughby-Eastlake Advantage!

We’re so proud to celebrate Edison teacher Christine Bittner who just became the first swimmer to be inducted into the Eastlake North High School Hall of Fame! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค

From record-breaking laps in the pool to inspiring students in the classroom, she continues to lead by example, showing what dedication, determination, and Ranger pride looks like!

"Although I have spent a lifetime in this district and I teach little Rebels, I will forever say, 'Go Rangers!'”

Congratulations on this incredible honor!

Edison was proud to partner with the Lake County Council on Aging on a very special project - Pet Meals on Wheels Food, Toys and Treat Drive. Many Lake County senior citizens who receive Meals on Wheels also have pets. Meals on Wheels provides food for the seniors and added a special component where they also deliver food for their pets. Pets are great companions for senior citizens and being able to support them was heartwarming for our staff and students. Being empathetic is one of our core competencies and our students are so compassionate!
